Stars fall in LA Poker Classic

2010-03-04 14:40:06

Many of the hot favourites going into the last few sessions of the World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic fell by the wayside, with relative unknowns making it to the final table instead.

World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event winner Carlos Mortensen, who had led the proceedings at the close of day four was unable to build on his chip stack and was sent to the rail in ninth.

Mortensen had already felted Daniel Negreanu along the way after Negreanu failed to capitalise on an early lead.

Other top names such as Johnny Chan and Annie Duke suffered similar fates, busting out 12th and 19th respectively.

According to ESPN's Andrew Feldman, arguably the most well-known player to make it to the final six is Gevork Kasabyan, who has cashed in the WSOP before.

Feldman noted that Hungarian Andras Koroknai is the leader with $4.9 million in chips and could be set to take home over $1.7 million if he secures the title.
