Negreanu reflects on Bay 101 performance

2010-03-10 10:32:43

Daniel Negreanu has made it through the first day of play in the World Poker Tour's Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament.

According to the card sharp, writing on his Full Contact Poker blog, while he lasted the first 24 hours it was difficult to get chips and he lost a crucial hand near the end of the session.

Nicknamed Kid Poker, Negreanu noted that he had failed to raise a hand for about an hour before bumping it up from under the gun to 1,800 chips with six-nine suited in diamonds.

With two opponents in the pot, the four-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner saw three hearts fall on the flop and decided to give the hand up.

However, with the other two players checking, the turn card gave Negreanu a straight.

Deciding to protect his hand, he raised and was called by one of the competitors, who also met an all-in bet on the river, before showing the nut flush.

"It doesn't matter what you start with, situations just come up sometimes where you are destined to lose some chips," he reflected.
