Poker is a game of skill, expert says

2010-03-12 17:06:07

Poker is not just about being lucky, one former professional player has claimed.

Dale Morrow told the Herald News that enthusiasts that have more skills in their arsenal are much more likely to be profitable in the long run.

He remarked: "Poker really isn't a game of chance … You certainly can gamble, but it is not necessary."

Mr Morrow is hoping to teach elements of the pastime to budding fans through a new training school he has set up in Fall River, Massachusetts.

"The plan is to teach poker as a vocation," he stated, adding that he himself used it as his only source of income to support his family in the past.

According to the ex-pro, poker is more like chess than other casino games that rely on luck.

Poker was recently deemed a game of skill by the International Mind Sports Association, meaning that it could make an appearance at the World Mind Sports Games in London in 2012.
