Brunson congratulates Duke on Heads Up win

2010-03-15 16:08:17

Doyle Brunson has congratulated fellow professional poker player Annie Duke for securing the NBC Heads Up Championship for 2010.

Duke is the first female to win the tournament since its inception and Texas Dolly wrote on his official blog that it was nice to see her triumph after a tough record going into the one-on-one competition.

"I was also glad to see Erik Seidel, who is my first choice for this year’s poker hall of fame, come in second," he said.

Commenting on his own performance, Brunson admitted that he had thought about not showing up, but he decided the quick-fire format might ease him back into the game after being inactive for some time.

The Grandfather of Poker finished in the final eight, being knocked out by Dennis Phillips.

For coming away with the 2010 Heads Up title, Duke - who is the sister of poker veteran Howard Lederer - pocketed $500,000.
