Hellmuth 'may be adjusting to modern play'

2010-03-15 17:21:17

Phil Hellmuth could see a boost in his tournament performances in the future, it has been claimed.

According to Bluff Europe, while Hellmuth dominated the scene before the poker boom in 2003, the game has moved on.

However, the information source noted that the Poker Brat's recent performance in the World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star even could signify a change in tactics from the 11-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner.

"Hellmuth, in the 1980s and 1990s, was easily tournament poker's best player," it explained. "In this century, however, he fell behind."

Despite this, the news provider commented that two hands from the Bay 101 competition stood out in particular as examples of the card sharp's changing mentality.

In both, the 45-year-old showed he is more aggressive and willing to take a chance every now and again, Bluff Europe said.

Hellmuth recently stated on his official blog that 2009 was his worst year in poker ever, blaming his poor form on the fame associated with being a pro.
