Brunson: Young guns nowhere to be seen at Heads Up event

2010-03-17 17:44:58

Doyle Brunson has claimed that despite the attention given to younger players on the poker circuit, none made it to the late stages of the recent NBC Heads Up Championship.

Nicknamed Texas Dolly, due to an announcer mispronouncing Texas Doyle, the poker veteran wrote on his blog that fresh faces were conspicuous by their absence.

Brunson made it to the final eight of the competition, which was eventually won by Annie Duke, although he has opted out of many tournaments in recent months.

"When I walked into the room for the final eight I was amazed," he said. "What happened to the youngsters?"

According to the 76-year-old, while he was obviously the oldest competitor in the room, everybody else was at least in their mid-40s.

Also known by the moniker the Grandfather of Poker, Brunson recently offered an apology to young online players, stating that their abilities at this form of the game are to be respected.
