Chris Farmer wins South California WSOP Circuit event

2010-03-22 17:23:00

A semi-professional poker player has won almost $25,000 at this year's first World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit tournament held at Harrah's Rincon Casino and Resort.

Chris Farmer from San Diego pocketed $24,415 after besting the 599-entrant field - with most of the competitors falling on the first day.

For his achievement, the 25-year-old also received a gold ring - a token of accomplishment given to all WSOP Circuit champions.

It is the first time he secured such an honour and while Farmer has cashed in other events, this is his best performance playing a live tournament.

Of the nine players to sit down at the final table, none had previously triumphed on the Circuit, guaranteeing that a first-timer would be victorious.

Thomas Taylor, a 27-year-old pro, recently took home $89,570 at Caesars Atlantic City after playing more than nine hours on the last day of a WSOP Circuit competition.
