Hellmuth requests time extensions for NBC Heads Up

2010-03-23 15:57:47

Phil Hellmuth has publicly called for the NBC to offer players more time when they play in the broadcaster's Heads Up Championship.

Writing for his official blog, the Poker Brat said that while he does "love" the network, it is important the skill element is allowed to come to the fore in such tournaments.

"[The NBC] are ignoring all of the top players in the world when we ask for more time (and thus more skill) in the beloved NBC Heads Up Championship," he remarked.

According to the 1989 World Series of Poker main event winner, fellow pro Daniel Negreanu has offered the best idea for the future format of the one-on-one show by stating that the first round matches should be completed away from the cameras.

This would allow pros to take their time, without being forced into all-in or fold styles of play, he said.

Hellmuth was eliminated from the tournament by Annette Obrestad, after winning his first-round contest with Howard Lederer.
