Hachem wins ANZPT Perth

2010-03-24 17:09:02

Tony Hachem has won his first ever Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) leg after defeating 221 entrants in Perth.

While the AU$132,750 ($121,000) he pocketed pales in comparison to the $7.5 million his brother Joe won in the World Series of Poker main event in 2005, it still caps off an impressive set of performances for Tony.

The Victoria-based Australian has already cashed in all but one of the ANZPT tournaments since the tour started in February 2009 and the poker pro is currently the series' reigning player of the year.

Commenting on the victory, he said: "I am so over the moon, winning this means so much to me. I have come so close it is fantastic to finally have a title to my name."

On top of the prize money he earned, Hachem will also accrue 104.1 ANZPT points.

Tony's brother Joe is well known for his catchphrase "pass the sugar", which he exclaimed after winning a big pot during his 2005 main event triumph.
