Jesse May: Brunson is not a legend yet

2010-03-24 17:31:06

Poker commentator Jesse May has claimed Doyle Brunson is not a legend at the game, but only because he is still so relevant on the modern scene.

The former Late Night Poker host wrote in an article for Poker Player that the word should be reserved for when Brunson can no longer compete with today's professionals.

"Doyle … is so far from 'past it' it's not funny," he remarked. "His health and age might make movement restricted, but his mind is sharp and the man can play."

According to the industry expert and enthusiast, he interviewed 1988 World Series of Poker main event runner-up Erik Seidel and the card sharp described Brunson as the "most underappreciated" no-limit Texas hold'em player across the globe.

Nicknamed Texas Dolly, Brunson recently defended the skills of old-school pros, noting that in the recent NBC Heads Up Championship there were no competitors aged under 45 in the final stages.
