Aggressive poker 'can be combated with good betting'

2010-04-06 15:44:08

An increase in the number of poker players employing aggressive tactics to overcome their opponents has led to more advanced competitors shifting their betting patterns.

This is the suggestion of industry journalist Steve Rosenbloom, who wrote in an article for the Boston Globe that certain methods can be used to combat forceful moves.

According to Mr Rosenbloom, the proliferation of "hyper levels" of aggression can sometimes make tournaments seem nothing more than an all-in exercise.

"Navigating such treacherous risks requires greater attention to mixing your bet sizes," he remarked. "The concept helps you avoid becoming predictable."

Such strategies can enable card sharks to trap people who are trying to bully their way into winning pots, Mr Rosenbloom explained.

In other instances, he added, individuals might be able to see a cheap showdown if they have been varying their betting.

Writing for the same publication last month, the writer advised enthusiasts to base their hand selection on a number of factors, including chip stack and table position.
