Bob Irby wins WSOP Circuit Seniors Event

2010-04-08 17:20:21

A Texas resident has landed a gold ring on the World Series of Poker Circuit after besting a field of 181 competitors.

Keller-based Bob Irby triumphed in the tournament, which was being hosted by Harrah's Casinos, over the Easter holiday.

For his first-place finish, Mr Irby took home $14,344 and he admitted the competition was "a lot of fun".

According to the poker enthusiast, the game has changed a lot since he started playing in 1960.

It "used to be much easier", he claimed. "Even online poker back in 2001, but players [then] started reading books."

To keep up-to-date on any developments in poker it is important to pick up the latest literature, Mr Irby added.

At the same venue, 31-year-old sales manager Raymond Lantz beat 288 opponents earlier this week to pocket $139,680 in the $500 + $60 buy-in no-limit hold'em feature, while recording artist Nelly busted out on the bubble.
