Poker players 'should adjust strategy as hands unfold'

2010-04-13 13:19:46

Changing strategies during the middle of a hand is a skill all decent poker players should learn, one industry commentator has suggested.

Steve Rosenbloom, writing for the Boston Globe, stated that each new card on the board may require some adjustment in the way the hand is approached from thereon in.

"As board cards are revealed and betting follows, you try to put opponents on a range of hands while disguising the strength or weakness of your own," he remarked.

However, Mr Rosenbloom added, even the world's best can fall into the trap of sticking to one decision regardless of what lands on the turn or river.

He used two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Josh Arieh as an example, citing a recent hand in which the card shark failed to squeeze maximum profit from his opponent when he landed the nut flush.

Earlier this month, in an article for the same newspaper, Mr Rosenbloom said a good way of combating hyper-aggressive players is to mix up bet sizes frequently.
