Roper reigns in WSOP Circuit main event

2010-04-16 14:57:50

A corporate attorney has won himself a gold ring and the top prize money after securing the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit main event at Harrah's casino in St Louis.

Jeff Roper, who is based in the area, bested the 129-player field to land $170,814 of the $625,650 generated, in addition to a seat in this year's WSOP main event.

Commenting on his triumph, Roper admitted it "means a lot" to him, particularly as it is the biggest poker tournament to have taken place in Missouri.

He said: "I'm busy with work, but I play about two or three circuits a year and [I] am looking forward to coming out to the WSOP this summer."

A host of known faces turned up to the event, including 2006 WSOP main event runner-up Paul Wasicka and bracelet-winning brothers Blair and Grant Hinkle.

The Hurrah's finale concluded a run of Circuit competitions at the casino, with other victors including Bob Irby and Raymond Lantz.
