Liv Boeree wins EPT San Remo

2010-04-22 10:43:43

Liv Boeree won the European Poker Tour (EPT) San Remo event after two hours of heads up play.

She beat overnight leader Jakob Carlsson, who had over a third of the chips going into the final table.

The 25-year-old Londoner had eliminated Toni Pettersson, which left her with a huge stack and allowed her to seize the advantage.

Boeree has netted a cheque worth €1,250,000 ($1,677,000) for her troubles, as well as a seat at the EPT Grand Final starting on April 25th.

"I don't want to cry because that's not professional but I can't believe that I've won this. This is incredible. Everyone today played so good,” she said.

The card sharp added that when she took up the game four years ago, her aim was to emerge victorious in a major poker tournament.

Victoria Coren was the first woman to lift an EPT title, while Annie Duke recently became the inaugural female champion in the NBC Heads-Up Championships, taking home $500,000.
