David Williams wins WPT World Championship

2010-04-26 10:05:35

David Williams has been crowned as the winner of the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship, taking home a prize of $1,530,537 for his troubles.

The result also meant that Faraz Jaka, himself a chip leader before going out on day five, won the Player of the Year award.

Phil Hellmuth - who has never won a WPT tournament - busted out on the bubble of the final table but still claimed $152,856, while David Benyamine and Scotty Nguyen also made deep runs at the event.

Williams defeated Eric Baldwin heads up, after taking a three-to-one chip advantage into the final two.

After Baldwin had gone all-in with ace-five suited, Williams called with a pair of deuces.

When the flop went ace-seven-six and the turn bought a two, the contest was Williams'.

The event was being played at the same time as the European Poker Tour Grand Final in San Remo, which saw competitors have to choose which event to take part in.
