Englishman wins WSOP Circuit title

2010-04-27 15:43:34

An Englishman has emerged triumphant in the latest round of the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOP) in Las Vegas.

Paul Alterman had cashed at a number of poker tournaments throughout Europe - 45 in total - but this was his first time in a WSOP event.

He scooped $35,472 for his troubles in the $1,080 buy-in no-limit hold'em event after besting Sam McGrath in heads-up play.

Alterman was in seventh place going into the final table and he had also made an impressive comeback from being at a five-to-one chip deficit at one stage.

A first-time champion was always guaranteed, as no one who had made it down to the last nine had ever lifted a title and accompanying gold ring before.

Robert Feathers, a 32-year-old banker, also recently scooped his debut win on the WSOP Circuit after he took a few days off work and travelled down to the competition.
