Chris Moneymaker in the hunt at the EPT Grand Final

2010-04-28 12:55:08

Chris Moneymaker is well placed to do well in the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

The American, who won the 2003 World Series of Poker main event, is among the chip leaders as play goes into day three at the poker tournament.

Moneymaker is noted as one of the players who caused the boom in the popularity of the sport.

He won in 2003 after gaining entry to the contest through a $39 satellite competition, before he bested 839 players to clinch the $2.5 million first prize.

Anton Wigg and Kevin MacPhee, who triumphed in Copenhagen and Berlin respectively on the EPT this year, are also still in the running for the €1,700,000 top prize.

One big name who is already out of the event is outspoken Australian Tony G.

The card sharp lost 80 per cent of his chips on what he called a "nasty" hand, which saw him sent packing after only 6 hours.
