Doyle Brunson: Best players thrive on slow pace

2010-04-30 15:34:13

Slow-paced games and short hours reward the best players, one poker legend has claimed.

Writing in his official blog, Doyle Brunson noted that criticisms of the structure of the World Poker Tour World Championship were unfounded, adding: "The final table was one of the strongest in years."

He offered his congratulations to the eventual winner David Williams, but admitted that he had been pulling for his old pal Billy Baxter.

"I was excited when he was chip leader at the final table. Bad beats took over and Billy finished [fifth]," Brunson stated.

Texas Dolly remarked that he intends to relax until the World Series of Poker kicks off, where he is hopeful of tying Phil Hellmuth's record of 11 bracelets.

He observed that he is yet to decide on his strategy yet though, but as he is feeling in good health he may just go all out for wins rather than playing selected tournaments.

Brunson has been off the circuit recently recovering from tooth and gum surgery.
