Online player leading the way at EPT Grand Final

2010-04-30 10:58:06

Online poker player Kevin Eyster is the chip leader as the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final is down to the last 24 competitors.

He finished in a lowly 133rd place last week, but he is guaranteed at least €50,000 ($67,000) for his efforts so far.

Only two main event winners from this season managed to cash - Swedish pro Anton Wigg who won EPT Copenhagen finished in 99th place for €20,000 and EPT Berlin champion Kevin MacPhee took €20,000 for 84th - and none of them are still in the reckoning.

A total of 848 players entered the poker tournament from 51 different countries, which created a prize pool of €8,480,000.

French veteran Roger Hairabedian, EPT5 Prague winner Salvatore Bonavena and Canadian online whizz Andrew Chen are all still involved in play.

The event had initially been under threat because of the volcanic ash being discharged from Iceland, which forced the EPT to offer card sharps the chance to transfer their credits to future contests.
