22-year-old wins WSOP Circuit main event

2010-05-04 11:04:57

Andrew Lichtenberger has been crowned World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit Las Vegas main event champion.

The 22-year-old card shark pocketed $190,137 for his first prize, a result that means the young player has now amassed over $1 million in winnings already in his short career.

"I have always liked strategy-based games and computer games," he said. "By the time I became old enough to play poker it came somewhat naturally to me."

Lichtenberger bested 149 other competitors to lift the crown, which is his first major triumph after a number of high-profile cashes in last year's WSOP.

At 11 hours and 45 minutes, it was one of the longest final tables seen on the tour in 2010, while Lichtenberger only hit the front when it became four-handed after steadily increasing his stack.

Another first-time winner on the circuit during the Nevada leg was Paul Alterman, as the Englishman added to his impressive list of European results.
