Online player wins EPT Grand Final

2010-05-04 12:36:46

An online poker player scooped €1,700,000 (£2,234,000) after besting everyone to be crowned the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final winner.

Nicolas Chouity, a 23-year-old from Lebanon, was on top throughout the final and eliminated all but one of the other opponents.

He said: "It's a dream come true. I feel great. I had confidence coming into the final and I had the chip lead but you never know with poker."

Chouity beat 847 players throughout five days of gruelling action, which has seen him compete against some famous sports stars, including Boris Becker and Mats Sundin.

It is his second season on the EPT and he has cashed twice previously on the circuit in poker tournaments.

There is only one casino in his country, so all the card sharps from that region are very close to each other.

Another online poker pro, Kevin Eyster, had been the chip leader going into the fourth day of the competition.
