Deep-stacked tournaments 'offer different challenges'

2010-05-05 15:19:27

People need to think carefully about their approach when they are playing deep-stacked poker tournaments, an expert has claimed.

Steve Rosenbloom, writing in his column for the Boston Globe, noted that it is possible to overcall a pre-flop raise with a drawing hand that could hit big, due to the large amount of chips that a person starts off with.

He added that "dicey" hands can also be let go after the river, for the same reason.

Rosenbloom pointed to the play of Eric Baldwin, Card Player Magazine's 2009 player of the year.

Baldwin admitted that he had "chickened out" of a hand after getting involved because he was unsure of what his opponent had.

He added: "It feels like you're free-falling and you're short-stacked, but if you look at your stack in relation to the blinds, there’s no need to panic."

David Benyamine, a World Series of Poker bracelet winner, recently revealed that playing small suited connectors is a skill.
