Second place hard to take at WSOP, says expert

2010-05-07 12:24:31

Second-place finishers at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) are destined to always remember the chance they had, it has been suggested.

Nolan Dalla, writing on the official WSOP site, noted that while many of them will struggle to say what they had for dinner, they will all retain a perfect memory of the hand that saw them defeated.

He took the case of Frank Henderson, who lost to Johnny Chan in 1987. While Chan signs countless autographs and has advertising hoardings bearing his image, Henderson walks around in relative anonymity.

"Newcomers to poker and those who have never cashed in the main event often fail to understand the daunting task that lies ahead, in order to win," Dalla remarked.

But he did offer some hope, by stating that a number of players have gone on to achieve great things after finishing as a runner up.

Included in this bracket is Doyle Brunson, who has ten WSOP bracelets to his name and is behind only Phil Hellmuth in the all-time list.
