Suited connectors 'can work in certain situations'

2010-05-11 16:44:23

Suited connectors work best when there a number of people left in the hand, an expert has claimed.

Steve Rosenbloom, writing in his Boston Globe column, noted that once there are competitors going to the flop, it presents the chance to hit the big draw.

If the cards do not come up, it is important to get out of there as quickly as possible before losing real money.

He referenced a hand at the World Poker Tour's $15,000-buy-in Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio in Las Vegas last year.

Mike Sowers called with four-five of diamonds and the flop brought two further diamonds.

After the turn brought an ace, he bet out the hand against two other players and lifted himself a tidy profit in the process.

"If you're playing a tournament and you're three or four ways with suited connectors, you probably have one of the best equity hands against even aces," Sowers said after the win.

In a recent article, Rosenbloom remarked that deep-stacked tournaments require a different approach.
