Coren: Online events need to be broken up

2010-05-12 12:17:52

Some online poker tournaments are as much a test of physical fortitude as a mental one, it has been suggested.

Victoria Coren, writing in her Guardian blog, noted that events can sometimes go on for 26 hours, while the global nature of them means time zones can become a real factor.

"Over here [in Europe], we can be knocked out at six in the morning and not even be in the money yet," she said.

The poker enthusiast - the first woman to win a European Poker Tour competition - thinks that these types of mammoth encounters should be split over two days, with each session lasting no more than ten hours.

While playing the Spring Championship of Online Poker last week, Coren noted that she fell for a trap, which was well laid, but added she would not have expected to get caught out if she "hadn't been so goddamn tired".
