Big blinds can win hands, expert says

2010-05-20 15:45:32

The big blind has as good a chance as anybody else of having a winning hand, an expert has said.

John Juanda, a four-time World Series of Poker bracelet (WSOP) winner - told Steve Rosenbloom of the Boston Globe that it is important to get a solid read on an opponent when in this position.

He referenced a hand at the WSOP main event, which saw him draw king-two.

Juanda remarked that he "checked to make [my hand] look weak", as he waited to see what the other players would do.

Once everyone else had checked after the flop came king-eight-six, the card sharp was pretty confident he was holding the best hand.

Eventually Juanda was able to bet out the cards and make a tidy profit.

He stated: "Usually the amount you bet is based on what you think your opponent has."

Earlier this week, it was revealed that new WSOP bracelets are to be made to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the event.
