Victoria Coren praises quality of Nottingham poker club

2010-05-20 12:26:02

Victoria Coren has been praising a club in Nottingham after it held the latest poker tournament in the UK and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT).

The poker enthusiast - the first woman to win a European Poker Tour title - was writing in her Guardian column after Andrew Couldridge triumphed in the £500 ($720) competition at the Dusk Till Dawn.

"Big, airy and comfortable, with lots of parking and a nice bar. It may be the best poker venue I have seen in the UK," she added.

Coren noted that Couldridge is the first UK resident to win one of the events, a surprising fact considering they come with such a low buy-in level.

But she remarked that individuals have been "flocking from all over Europe" to take part in the UKIPT.

Couldridge claimed £80,000 for his troubles, which he said he intends to spend on watching his beloved Tottenham Hotspurs in Europe next season.
