Hoia Pham wins first gold bracelet of 2010 WSOP

2010-06-01 12:19:46

The first gold bracelet of the 2010 World Series of Poker has been won by Hoai Pham.

Since 2000, the Casino Employees Championship has traditionally been the inaugural event each year and Pham picked up more than $70,000 in addition to the bracelet.

A poker dealer from Vietnam who has lived in the US since 2003, it was his first major tournament victory and his biggest cash yet.

The win came at around 05:00 local time after a 15-hour session on the second day, with A.J. Vea defeated in the heads-up when Pham's pocket aces held up against a pair of fours.

"I told my boss I would take vacation to [play in this tournament]," said the champion. "So now, I get to go back to them and show them what I won."

With this year marking 40 years since the first WSOP, organizers have decided each bracelet in 2010 will be unique.
