WSOP Player of the Year award underway

The Player of the Year award has been officially launched at this year's World Series of Poker.It works by giving points for every cash someone makes at a WSOP open tournament, with the number of points based on the type of event and how high a player finishes.
At the end of the tournamnet, the card sharp with the most points is crowned Player of the Year and so receives an award many deem to be the highest accolade in rewarding consistency.
Previous winners of the title, now in its seventh year, include Daniel Negreanu, Jeff Lisandro and Erik Lindgren.
Lisandro proved to be something of a runaway winner after he claimed three bracelets in one meeting in 2009, as well as two other cashes.
Individuals who do claim money at the event are being encouraged to donate one per cent of their takings to the Nevada Cancer Institute.
