Business analyst scoops over $625k at WSOP

2010-06-04 17:10:11

Aadam Daya has taken down the $1,000 no-limit hold'em championship at the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

The 31-year-old business analyst won more than $625,000 for his efforts, in addition to the coveted gold bracelet - something he has been trying to achieve for some time.

As a Canadian, Daya was the only player at the final table who was not from the US and he is the first of his countrymen to win a bracelet at this year's event.

To do so, he had to come through a field of 4,345 runners, with organisers noting it was the sixth-largest live poker tournament ever.

"I really think I got pretty lucky to get through so many players," said Daya. "I was fortunate and I played well, but I also got lucky at the right times."

Earlier this week, Englishman Praz Bansi became the first non-American to win a gold bracelet at the 2010.
