WSOP bracelet for Englishman James Dempsey

2010-06-07 16:09:30

James Dempsey followed in his countryman's Praz Bansi's footsteps after lifting his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet.

The Englishman - seen as one of the best online poker pros in the nation - triumphed as a vociferous crowd got behind him.

At one stage, Mike Matusow complained the noise was unsettling him, as British players once again showed their ability at pot limit poker tournaments.

In second place was Steve Chanthabouasy, while a number of former WSOP bracelets winners also made the money, including Tom McEvoy and Tom Schneider.

Dempsey has a reputation for switching off during events and getting bored, but it is something he says he has worked on.

"I think I matured a bit. Like today, I lost two big pots and then I was the short stack. But I really focused and tried to maintain my head," he said.

According to Poker News, Tom Dwan is closing in on his first bracelet, with the internet sensation the chip leader with only 20 players left in the eleventh game.
