Simon Watt captures WSOP bracelet

2010-06-08 10:59:16

Simon Watt has won the $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em Championship at the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

The New Zealander has become the first person from his country to win a bracelet, while he also collected $614,248.

"It was amazing. It was strange. It would have been crazy enough to just make the final table. But to play against [Tom Dwan] heads-up made it much better," he added.

An interesting side note to the result was that Dwan, an online poker sensation, finished as runner-up.

It is believed he has a number of six and seven-figure wagers with some of the top card sharps in the business on whether he will win a WSOP bracelet this year.

This represented his best opportunity to do so, as he led the field with only 20 players remaining from the 2,563 who had started.

The result means individuals from the US, England, Vietnam and now New Zealand have lifted crowns at the WSOP in 2010.
